I’ve Always Supported You
The other day, a long-time friend said to me, “I’ve always supported you with all the brands, products, and projects you’ve worked on.”
At first, it sounded like something I’ve heard before — a kind and familiar sentiment. But for some reason, this time it hit differently. Maybe it’s age. Maybe it’s having the patience to let things sink in before reacting. Either way, it made me really stop and think about what support actually means.
I looked back on our 20+ years of friendship — all the times I went out of my way to take care of them, help them out, or connect them with opportunities. And then I asked myself: did that same support ever come back around in a real, tangible way?
Did they ever actually buy the product? Share the project? Champion the brand?
Or were they just there to say they “supported” me?
This isn’t coming from a bitter or transactional place — far from it. I’ve never kept score, and I’ve always been about collaboration, connection, and taking care of the people around me.
But the word support means a lot more to me now. It’s not about a comment, a like, or a “good job” text. It’s about showing up, making the effort, and helping someone move forward — not just cheering from the sidelines.
True support isn’t something you talk about.
It’s something you do.
So here’s my challenge to anyone reading this: go out and support the entrepreneurs in your circle. Whether it’s a new coffee shop, restaurant, brand, or project — do your best to show up for them in any way you can. Buy the product. Share their work. Tell a friend. Leave a review.
I promise you, it won’t go unnoticed.
